Terms and Conditions
About the Service
Genetic counselling aims to help you understand and adapt to genetic information, and to support you to make informed decisions. It does not replace medical care from your GP, specialist, or emergency services.
Online Appointments
- Your genetic counselling session will be conducted virtually using the secure online Microsoft Teams platform. You will be sent a link for your session at the time of booking. By agreeing to online counselling, you understand that the appointment is not face-to-face, that there may occasionally be technical problems, and that you are responsible for being in a space suitable to discuss sensitive personal and family information for the duration of the appointment.
- If you do not have a Teams account, the following instructions provide guidance on how to join your session: Join a meeting without an account in Microsoft Teams - Microsoft Support. If you experience problems joining your session, please contact me at elizabeth@elizabethverdongenetics.co.uk.
- If required, it is your responsibility to arrange an interpreter who can fluently translate English to the required language for the duration of the scheduled appointment. Please let me know at elizabeth@elizabethverdongenetics.co.uk at the time of booking if you intend to arrange an interpreter.
- If we experience technical problems during the session, I will contact you on the phone number you have provided during the booking process.
- If you do not attend the session within 15 minutes of your scheduled appointment start time, this will be considered a cancellation and you may be charged at full price (if applicable).
Confidentiality and data storage
- Your personal information and all clinically relevant data will be kept confidential; only I and your clinical team (if relevant)–who are similarly bound by confidentiality–will be permitted access to this information. All information will be stored securely, in line with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
- I may be required to share anonymised information relating to your genetic counselling session with regulatory and professional bodies that review genetic counselling practices.
- Your information will only be shared with your permission. Exceptions to this are if I am required to share your information by law, or if I believe there is a risk of harm to you or others, in which case I will share your information with the appropriate authorities.
- When you request genetic counselling, I will process your data: (1) to provide the appropriate genetic counselling services; (2) to check and guarantee the quality of the services provided; (3) for educational purposes, ensuring that the data is anonymised; (4) to address any concerns or suggestions made by you.
- You have the right to access your records.
Cancellations
- A minimum of 24 hours’ notice is required for rescheduling or cancelling an appointment. If a rescheduling/cancellation request is received less than 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment start time, you may be charged at full price (if applicable).
- If I need to cancel your session at short notice, you will be contacted as soon as possible to reschedule the appointment.
If you will be attending a genetic counselling session with another person, please ensure that this person has also reviewed the above terms and conditions.
